About the Teleseminar
"Is Five Element Theory the same as TCM"?
To understand how Oriental Medicine can inform us in our energetic view of essential oils it is important to have an overview of the two main theories that exist today in practice. Acupuncturists and Eastern Herbalists operate using either Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Taoist five Element Theory or a combination of both.
As Aromatherapists we learn different theories of blending and gravitate naturally toward the style that fits who we are as individuals. Likewise, in Oriental Medicine, practitioners will naturally favor one theory of practice over another.
In both professions the major theories fall either into an empirical frame or one that is more intuitively derived.
TCM and Taoist Five Element theories developed within the rich history of The Chinese culture in transition over thousands of years. Understanding some of this history will shed light on how these two schools of thought differ and how they are both relevant to Aromatherapists.
