In this 12-hour Board Certified course, the student will discover the power of water, both fresh and from the sea, and the important role it plays in the body’s healing process. Discussion includes the principles and the practice of hydrotherapy in achieving a state of health, vitality and well-being in the body and the mind. Thalassotherapy (from the Greek word thalassa, meaning "sea") is the use of seawater as a form of therapy. It is based on the systematic use of seawater, sea products, and shore climate. A variety of techniques and natures products, including a variety of essential oils, will be presented that can be used in a spa or a less formal setting. Class consists of lecture and instruction protocols for at-home hands-on practical techniques, including cryotherapy, contrast baths and fomentation and applications of algae and salts from the ocean. There are many simple hydrotherapy techniques, enhanced with essential oils, for addressing a variety of issues: Calming anxiety Detoxifying the tissues Boosting immunity Stimulating circulation of blood and lymphatics Healing injury Relieving pain Supporting digestion Relieving muscle tension This course is offered in 3 4-hour segments: Wednesdays May 11,18 and 25 9am-1pm.
