South African Fynbos Essential Oils

Explore Fynbos essential oils grown in the Western Cape of South Africa through visits to Cape Mountain Oils and Still Pure. Fynbos are plants native to a biodiverse swath of shrubland (called fynbos) in the Western Cape of South Africa which is home to more than 8,500 species of plants, of which over 6,000 are endemic. Not all Fynbos have essential oils and only a fraction have been studied. In this webinar, African Cape Chamomile, African Wormwood, Blue Mountain Sage, Buchu, Cape May, Cape Snowbush, Khaki Bush, Kooigoed, and Rosemary Tuscan Blue essential oils will be reviewed.

About the Presenter:

Dawn Langley-Brady, PhD(c), MSN, RN, AHN-BC, CHPN, CCA has been a practicing nurse for 29 years. Her areas of expertise include pediatrics, holistic nursing, pain management, and hospice and palliative care. She is certified by AHNCC as a Board-Certified Advanced Holistic Nurse. In this capacity, she incorporates such complementary modalities as aromatherapy, relaxation, humor, guided imagery, and bio-destressing in patient care. She is the founder and Chapter Leader of the CSRA Chapter of the American Holistic Nurses Association. Dawn is also a Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse who focuses on pain reduction and symptom management. She is a Certified Clinical Aromatherapist and a professional member of both the National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy [NAHA] and the Alliance of International Aromatherapists [AIA]. Dawn has been providing aromatherapy consultation services for eight years as an independent practitioner and owner of Aromatherapeutic Solutions in Augusta, (formerly Martinez) Georgia. She is an Augusta University (AU) College of Nursing faculty member, an AU Nursing PhD Candidate, and a former member of AU’s Georgia Cancer Center’s Integrative Oncology Steering Committee. She has given aromatherapy presentations locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally, and has been selected to present at the STTI International Nursing Research Congress the past three years resulting in essential oil case study and literature review presentations in Dublin, Ireland, Cape Town, South Africa, and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Dawn has been published in the International Journal of Clinical Aromatherapy and The Aromatherapy Journal. Her dissertation research is focusing on essential oil inhibition of substance P and topical application for the reduction of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in breast cancer. Her research is funded in part by American Holistic Nurses Association and Sigma Theta Tau International/American Nurses Foundation Research Grants.
