This teleconference with Joie Power, Ph.D. explores the olfactory system and the routes that odors travel as they move from the olfactory receptors in the nose and into the brain. Dr. Power will discuss the neurological basis of the connection between odors and memory and will explain how odors affect mood and mental states through the brain’s limbic system as well as the impact that aromas have on endocrine and immune system function. Nothing affects the brain more rapidly than an inhaled aroma and understanding the mechanisms of this action reveals the unique power of aromatherapy as a therapeutic modality.
