Enfleurage is the primary method I use to extract the scent of flowers that cannot be distilled. I have studied the ancient texts, experimented over the last ten years, and have evolved a simple system incorporating these traditional methods with some modern innovations in order to extract the essential oil of lilac. Lilac is one flower that does not lend itself to distillation.  On our lilac farm in Upstate New York at the foothills of the Adirondacks, we grow rare and heirloom varieties of Lilacs. With more than 150 different cultivars in our exhibit garden and a full range of early-, mid- and late-season bloomers and an acre of wild lilacs, we have more than 30 days of blossoms. In our perfume garden in Upstate NY we grow and perform Enfleurage with Peonies, Hyacinth, Violets, and we grow Jasmine and Gardenia in Mexico, also for Enfleurage. Enfleurage is a beautiful way to extract the essence of any flowers. It captures the entire scent profile and maintains the integrity of the healing properties contained within the flower. I have developed the notion that Aromatherapists using enfleurage, can make their own very rare extractions, pomades, essential oils, and absolutes on a small scale at home using Enfleurage, with the right tools and knowledge of the art. Through years of study and practice I have created my own equipment and have put together a Do-it-Yourself Enfleurage Kit with Chassis, the necessary hand tools, and my self-published Art of Enfleurage book. We build the chassis at the farm and students come to pick up their kit and take the 10 hour workshop with 10 CEUs onsite included with the price of the kit. The learning environment is a spectacular venue, hands-on at the farm, rapturously immersed in scented flowers, and is uplifting and nourishing to the spirit.

The workshop covers the Art of Enfleurage and the making of a pomade and takes the learner through to the process of extracting the absolute oil from the pomade.

The course is offered on site over a two day visit to the farm, and is also offered through video conferencing where the Enfleurage kit can be shipped to the Aromatherapist and a video link established for the workshop.
